Sports Betting, the Bally Bet Way

Sports betting has landed at Bally Bet, and with it come countless opportunities to get in on the fun.

The world of online sports betting is packed with possibilities. From the immense number of wagers to the flow of fixtures and the stats behind every play. It’s this mix of volume and variety that makes betting on sports so exciting, no matter who or what you're a fan of.

Want football action now? No worries. Head to our Premier League or National League markets and discover a world of possibilities.

Or if you’re more in the mood for some horse racing, cricket, boxing or darts excitement, we've got betting options for those too.

New to the scene? We’ve got you. We know that with so much happening, it can all feel a bit full-on at first. That’s where this guide comes in. Use it to cut through the noise and get the essentials: how to place a wager, how to read odds, what the different sorts of bets are (and what sports you can use them on) and more.

You’ll be ready to play in no time.

What Is Sports Betting Anyway?

This one's easy. Sports betting is simply placing money on the outcome of any sporting event. If your prediction is right, it pays out just like a casino bet.

With so many awesome sports games taking place around the world, and plenty of keen fans following the action, sports betting is one of the most popular forms of wagering nowadays. And you can dive into all the action right here at Bally Bet.

In keeping with our 90+ year mission to deliver epic gaming entertainment to players, Bally's sports betting platform puts all the thrill of sports at your fingertips. So, you can boost the celebrations when your favourite team, player or even horse(!) reigns supreme.

How Do I Read Betting Odds?

Keen to get started? Check out any of our online sports betting markets and you’ll find three different odds settings: fractional, decimal and American.

At Bally Bet, we give our players the choice to play with any of the three.

If you need to brush up on what exactly each of these three options means, here’s a closer look. Try all of them out and find which suits your betting style best.

Fractional

Fractional odds are most popular in the UK and Ireland, and they’re the default betting option for both in-person and online bookmakers.

If something is 8/1, it means that for every £1 bet, you get £8 back. So, a winning £10 wager gets £80 profit, plus the stake back for a total of £90.

Backing an outcome at 12/5 works as 10 x (12/5), and so it will pay out £34 overall.

Decimal

While decimal odds dominate Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, plenty of bettors in the UK use them too.

Unlike fractional odds, decimals factor in your stake to make calculating returns easier.

Placing a £10 bet on a winning outcome at 6.0 returns £60, as it is just 10 x 6. Simple, right?

This also applies to bets under 2.0, or even money. If you bet £10 on a 1.5 shot, the payout will be £15 (10 x 1.5).

American

We couldn't bring you the true American gaming experience without giving you a taste of our own odds system.

US odds are shown with either '+' or '-' signs. If the number is +400, this is how much you'd receive from a successful $100 bet. Anything with a '-' next to the number indicates how much you’d need to wager to win $100.

Got that? Why not try out our odds in the NFL for a true taste of the American betting experience?

What Kind of Bets Can I Choose From?

There's a whole host of sports betting markets and opportunities at Bally Bet, with something to suit experienced bettors and those new in town.

Check out some of the most popular markets to place sports wagers below:

Match winner

Place a bet on the player or team you think will be crowned the champions. Don't forget about the possibility of a draw or tie, though. This is a market best suited for sports like football and cricket, but if you’re following tennis and snooker, then you'll know there's only the straight-up win option in these games.

Correct score

Got a bold prediction for the big game? Check out the correct score betting feature, which pays out if you nail the exact result. This can be for a set part of the match, like the first set in tennis or the full-time result in football.

Correct score wagers are a lot easier to win on low-scoring sports, so keep this in mind for the likes of rugby and basketball where there's often a heap of points.

Handicaps

Level the playing field by adding a handicap to the result. This can make games more exciting when there are opponents who are expected to win by a wide margin. Give the underdog a head start or make the task a little more difficult for the favourites.

Handicap markets are the most popular types of bets on American football. If the Dallas Cowboys started with 3.5, they'd need to win by at least four points to cover the spread, or if you took the Carolina Panthers +9.5, they can lose by nine points or less.

Over/unders

Fancy a low-scoring game or a points frenzy? Head to the over/under section, where the aim is to predict how many goals, 180s, touchdowns or tries there will be.

If you bet on over 2.5 goals in the match, there needs to be at least three for the wager to win. Similarly, take under 6.5 rounds in boxing and the fight must end before the 7th round to pay out.

Outrights (or ante-post betting)

Got an eye on the future? Place outright bets to predict the outcome of the season or an event. This could be on a player to get the most touchdowns in the NFL, or the winners of darts tournaments like the Premier League or World Championship.

Outright wagers are a longer form of betting as you’ll have to wait a while to get paid out, but they are a great way to keep excitement levels up across the calendar.

So, that’s the most popular sorts of sports bets covered. Now it’s up to you to explore all the options we’ve got on offer and decide which ones look the most appealing. Before we move on, we think we’d be remiss not to mention multiples.

With a multiple bet, you can combine several outcomes across one bet. While they do add more risk, they also come with the chance to play for bigger payouts.

Add two or more selections to the bet slip to find all the different multis available at Bally Bet. Now, we know, we know, multis have some unusual names. Keep on reading as we explain the meaning behind the names of the more common sports betting multiples.

Types of Multiples

Accumulators

The most common type of bet for multiples is undoubtedly the accumulator - more commonly known as an ‘acca’ - which starts with at least two selections. As this is a single wager, all picks must win for the bet to pay out, so choose wisely.

Trixies

If you don't want to bank on all your picks landing, try out a trixie. You'll need three picks to make up the four bets: three doubles and a treble. Two out of three isn't bad after all, as this should turn a profit.

Yankees

Next up is the Yankee, and the story goes that it takes its name from an American soldier who made a nice profit on one of these bets in the UK! It's formed of four selections and creates six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold accumulator.

Canadians

Take the next step up from the Yankee with a Canadian. Some folks know this wager as a Super Yankee, and it's made up of five picks, giving you 26 bets in total. There are 10 doubles, 10 trebles, five four-folds and a five-fold accumulator.

Bet builders

Place wagers on multiple outcomes from a single game and play for bigger payouts by using our awesome bet builder feature!

At least two legs must be added for the wager to be eligible, and you can use any of the markets on the match. This could be both teams to score, a player to be carded and everything in between.

Sports Betting Tips

Staying sharp is all part of fun when it comes to sports betting. We know that. And smart sports betting starts with knowing what to look for. Take time to analyse how certain events play out, and you’ll start to notice some interesting similarities.

Whether you’re backing your favourite club or sizing up the next boxing bout, there are some things that can’t be missed. Consider things like recent form, who they’re up against and how they like to play (or fight).

No matter which sport you’re looking to place your next wager may be, the bottom line is the best edge you can have comes with staying up to date. Keep an eye on the latest news, check your gut feeling and don’t sleep on the details.
